On this project our client, a sign and engraving company needed the maroon band you see across the the fronts and sides of these commercial buildings painted green, this project presents a few challenges the first was, the band across the front is ceramic coated steel, so we had to be careful with our product selection for several reasons first it is extremely hard to get anything to bond to a ceramic surface, so it was crucial that we selected the right primer, after removing all the vinyl lettering and thoroughly cleaning all the adhesive residue and dirt, we lightly sanded the surface and applied the primer we had selected, a waterborne epoxy polyamide. We had the primer tinted to assure a uniform appearance of the finish coat, the second challenge was this, the sign company wanted a coating that could withstand the removal of vinyl lettering whenever a tenant moved out, the usual technique for removing the lettering is with a metal scraper, so the coating had to be tough and we chose an aliphatic urethane enamel for it's abrasion resistance, gloss retention, and resistance to marring, chipping and scratching. The middle left frame dated 11-08 is after the application of the prime coat, the middle right frame dated 11-09 shows the finish coat during application (far right). The two frames added at the bottom dated 11-23 are part of the finished project
